ORIGIN OF MAPT

Agriculture is the mainstay of Myanmar's economy and therefore, in 1945, ever before Myanmar regained her independence, a synonymous organization of MAPT, called the Agriculture Project Board, APB was established. After independence, in 1950, the Government of the Union of Burma, promulgated SAMB act to form
State Agricultural Marketing Board. It was reformed in 1963, 1965 and 1976 under the names of Union of Burma Agricultural Marketing Board (UBAMB), Trade Corporation N0.1 (TC-1) and Agricultural & Farm Produce Trade Corporation (AFPTC) respectively. In 1989, under the market oriented economic system, this enterprise was again restructured as State Economic Enterprise under the name of Myanmar Agricultural Produce Trading (MAPT), constituted in the organization set-up Ministry of Commerce. The MAPT has legal entity and it is headed by a Managing Director.
