YANGON, 21 Jan - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt left here by Tatmadaw helicopter yesterday and arrived at Kyaunggon in Ayeyawady Division at 8.30 am.
He was accompanied by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein, Deputy Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Soe Myint, Deputy Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Thein Aung, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments and officials.
The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, Division, District and Township Peace and Development Council members, departmental personnel, Union Solidarity and Development Association members, Auxiliary Fire brigade and Red Cross members, Maternal and Child Welfare Association members and local people.

(2) Deputy Premier MIC Chairman receives President of Tokiwa Corporation
YANGON, 21 Jan - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received President of Tokiwa Corporation Mr Naoyuki Jeff Soga and party of Japan at his office at 3 pm today.
Present also were Minister at the Office of the Chairman of State Peace and Development Council Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials.

(4) Ambassadors call on Minister for Information
YANGON, 21 Jan - Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong called on Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung at his office this afternoon.
Ambassador of Thailand Mr Poksak Nilubol, who has completed tour of duty in Myanmar, called on Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung at his office later.
The Minister and the ambassadors discussed bilateral good relations and media matters.

YANGON, 21 Jan - Assistant UN Secretary-General Mr Alvaro de Soto called on Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw at his office at 10 am today.
They discussed matters of mutual interest.

(6) Farmers collectively sell paddy in Bago, Pyuntaza and Tawgweinn
YANGON, 21 Jan - Chairman of Bago District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tun Aye inspected collective paddy sales of farmers from seven village-tracts at Phayagyi Village in Bago Township on 19 January.
In meeting with farmers, he explained the new paddy purchase system and attended to their needs.
Fathers sold 3,500 baskets of paddy at the paddy purchase centre in the village that day.
Lt-Col Tun Aye then proceeded to Pyuntaza Paddy Purchase Centre in Nyaunglaybin Township where he met farmers who came there to sell paddy and attended to their needs.
The centre has purchased 31,000 baskets of paddy from farmers so far.
The chairman then arrived at Penwegon Paddy Purchase Center in Kyauktaga Township and cordially met farmers who came there to sell paddy.
Farmers from nine village-tracts sold over 2,000 baskets of paddy at the centre that day.
Yesterday, Lt-Col Tun Aye, accompanied by officials, attended the collective paddy sale of paddy at Tawgweinn Paddy Purchase Centre and inspected purchase of paddy there.
A total of 2,808 baskets of paddy were sold by farmers at the centre.
Similarly, Pyuntaza Centre purchased 5,755 baskets of paddy and Shansu Centre 5,800 baskets yesterday.

(7) Minister for Industry-2 receives Dy D-G of Machinery and Information Industries Bureau of Japan
YANGON, 21 Jan - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe received Deputy Director-General Mr Ichiro Nakajima of Machinery and Information Industries Bureau of Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan at his office at 2 pm today.
Present also were Deputy Minister U Thein Tun and officials.

(8) JCE officials meet EC members of UMCCI
YANGON, 21 Jan - A five member study delegation led by Mr Makato Noda of Japan Centre for International Exchange (JCIE) based in Tokyo met EC members of the Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry at UMCCI this morning.
Vice-Chairmen of UMCCI U Hla Tin and U Htein Win spoke General Secretary U Maung Maung briefed them on emergence of UMCCI and its activities.
Mr Makato Noda spoke on prospects of ASEAN 10 and implications for regional economy and international relations.
Officials discussed UMCCI's participation and ASEAN affairs.

(9) ms Song of Flower concludes visit
YANGON, 21 Jan - Some of the tourists who arrived on 17 January by cruise-liner ms Song of Flower visited Shwedagon Pagoda this morning.
Some of them went to Kaba Buddha Vipassana Beikman Kyaungtaik in Ward-5, Mayangon Township. Presiding Sayadaw of the Kyaungtaik Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadaja Bhaddanta Panadipa delivered the sermon to them. The tourists meditated on Vipassana there.
The cruiseliner left here at Nanthidar Jetty of Yangon on 21 January evening.

(10) Minister for Science and Technology receives NUS delegation of Singapore
YANGON, 21 Jan - Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung received Dean of Engineering Professor Andrew Nee of National University of Singapore Delegation at his office at 2 pm today.
Present also were Deputy Minister U Hlaing Win, Director-General U Kyin Soe of Higher Science and Technology Department, Rector Dr Kyaw Thein of Computer Science and Technology (Yangon) and Rector U Nyi Hla Nge of Institute of Technology (Yangon).

(11) Minister for Energy inspects MPPE filling stations
YANGON, 21 Jan - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi inspected MPPE filling stations at Hlegu, Hinngokepin, Pyinmana and Meiktila on Yangon-Mandalay Highway on 19 and 20 January.
The minister proceeded to the office of the Bago Division MPPE Officer on 21 January and instructed the needs of effective distribution of fuel and fulfilled the requirements.
He also took the actions on undutiful and dishonourable service personnel.

(12) Course on Urban Environmental Planning and Management for Myanmar opens
YANGON, 21 Jan - Under the Sub-regional Environmental Training and Institutional Strengthening (SETIS) of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Project, the training course on Urban Environmental Planning and Management for Myanmar jointly organized by the National Commission for Environmental Affairs (NCEA), the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) and the Asian Development Bank opened at the International Business Centre this morning.
Secretary of NCEA U Kyaw Tint Swe, Joint Secretary YCDC U Kyi Win and Dr Ngugen Cong Thanh, environmental training specialist of GMS, delivered speeches.
It was attended by departmental heads, officials of NCEA and YCDC, resident representatives of UN agencies and guests.
Sessions relating to the urban environmental planning and management will be conducted at the course which will last two weeks Twenty trainees are attending it.
