General Than Shwe meets Chairman of National People’s Congress Mr Wu Bangguo

Sept-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar
Senior General Than Shwe met Mr Wu Bangguo, Chairman of National People’s
Congress, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing of the People’s Republic
of China at 3 pm on 9 September.
Also present at
the call together with the Senior General were SPDC member Thura U Shwe Mann,
SPDC Secretary-1 Thiha Thura U Tin Aung Myint Oo, Lt-Gen Min Aung Hlaing of the
Ministry of Defence, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for
Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win, Minister for National Planning and Economic
Development U Soe Tha, Myanmar Ambassador to PRC U Thein Lwin and senior
departmental officials.
Together with Mr
Wu Bangguo were Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Yang Jiechi, Deputy Head of
Foreign Relation Committee of the National People’s Congress Mr Cha Beixin,
Assistant Secretary of the Standing Committee of the National People’s
Congress Mr Cao Weizhoum, Director- General Mr Sun Wei of the Office of the
Deputy Secretary-General of the NPC, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Ye Dabo
and high-ranking officials.
At the meeting,
they exchanged views on strategic relations achieved between the two countries
over the past 60 years of the diplomatic ties; constant maintenance of the
friendly relations;speedy implementation of contracts between the two neighbors;
step-by-step implementation of the electoral processes in Myanmar and political
developments; harmonious cooperation with neighboring countries and countries in
the world, UN and international organizations after laying down independent and
active foreign policy based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and
bilateral economic cooperation including the energy sector, gas and oil
pipelines laying project, hydropower sector, industry sector and construction of
railroads and roads from Kyaukpyu to Shweli for sustainable progress in the
strategic relations.
Senior

Sept-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar
Senior General Than Shwe met Premier Mr Wen Jiabao of the State Council of the
People’s Republic of China at Zhongnanhai Hall of Premier’s Office in
Beijing at 4:10 pm on 9 September.
Also present at
the call together with Senior General Than Shwe were SPDC Member Thura U Shwe
Mann, SPDC Secretary-1 Thiha Thura U Tin Aung Myint Oo, Lt-Gen Min Aung Hlaing
of the Ministry of Defence, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung,
Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win, Minister for National Planning and
Economic Development U Soe Tha, Myanmar Ambassador to the PRC U Thein Lwin and
senior departmental officers.
Together with
Chinese Premier Mr Wen Jiabao were Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Yang Jechi,
Minister of Commerce Mr Chen Demin, Minister of National Energy Administration
Mr Zhang Guobaa, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Ye Dabo and highranking
officers.
Both sides
discussed matters on promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation in the
economic sector, prevalence of peace and tranquility and law and order in border
areas, close cooperation in international issues, sustainable cooperation,
construction of Shweli- Kyaukpyu Road and Railroad and Kyaukpyu Port, rendering
of assistance for industrialization in Myanmar, taking of measures in order not
to cause environmental degradation in implementing the bilateral projects,
opening of Myanmar banks in China, encouraging Chinese companies to invest in
Myanmar.
In the evening,
Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party departed for
Shanghai from Beijing by Chinese special flight. There Shanghai Vice-Mayor Mr
Aibaojun and officials welcomed them.
The Shanghai
Vice- Mayor hosted dinner to the Senior General and wife and party at Radisson
Plaza Xing Guo Hotel.
Later, Myanmar
delegation led by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing went to Xi
Jiao State Guest Hotel.

Sept-The Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, accompanied by
Myanmar Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China U Thein Lwin and wife,
Military Attaché Col Tint Wai and wife and officials together with Chinese
Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Mr. Ye Dabo, left Diaoyutai State Guesthouse
in Beijing at 8.10 am on 9 September and arrived at the Great Wall in Bada Ling
region of Beijing at 8.50 am.
Head of State
Senior General Than Shwe, wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party were welcomed by
officials at the Great Wall in Bada Ling region.
The Senior
General, wife and party visited the Great Wall and posed for documentary photos.

Ambassador to China

Sept - Myanmar Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China U Thein Lwin and
wife hosted a lunch in honour of Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the State
Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe
and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing at the ambassador’s resident on 9 September.
Myanmar
Ambassador to China U Thein Lwin and wife, Military Attaché Col Tint Wai and
wife, staff and families of the Embassy and Military Attaché Office and Myanmar
trainees studying in Beijing welcomed Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw
Kyaing Kyaing and entourage when they arrived at the ambassador’s resident on
10.35 am. SPDC Secretary-1 Thiha Thura U Tin Aung Myint Oo and ministers met the
ambassador, the military attaché, staff and trainees at the hall of the
resident.
In meeting with
them, the Secretary-1 explained improvement of friendship and mutual ties
between two countries as a result of the goodwill State visit of the delegation
led by the Head of State; deepen strategic economic cooperation; friendship and
collaboration between two nations to be accelerated by trainees; helping
compatriots arriving in China; and economic and political progresses in Myanmar.
The Secretary-1
cordially greeted the staff, trainees and those present.
The ambassador
and wife, the military attaché and wife, staff and trainees paid respect to
Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing.
The Senior

Minister upgrades irrigation sector in Yamethin, Pyawbwe Tsps

Sept- Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Htay Oo yesterday morning paid
an inspection tour of Hnaphukyinn Lake in Yamethin Township, Yamethin District
in Mandalay Region. He heard on progress of renovation of the lake presented by
Assistant director U Soe Tint of Irrigation Department.
The minister
greeted farmers working in its irrigated area and concentrated on flow of
irrigation water. It was learnt that its embankment is 1300 long and 21 high,
besides it benefits 378 acres of farmlands.
On arrival of U
Min Naing Lake, Aung Mingalar Village-Tract in Yamethin Township, the minister
left necessary instructions on expressions by officials concerned about
renovation, flow of water of the lake.
The minister
also extended his tour to Nyaung Shwe Village in Pyawbwe Township.

Sports Ministry team honoured

Sept - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Thura U Aye
Myint addressed the ceremony to honour Sports Ministry football team, champions
of fourth Inter-Ministry Football Tournament, at the assambaly hall of the
ministry on 10 September.
The manager of
the team presented the teaming and training of the squad.
The Minister for
Sports delivered an address on the occasion.
The manager,
coaches and athletes handed the minister champion shield, replica shield and
cleanest team trophy.
The minister
presented cash awards to the team and coaches.
The captain of
the team spoke words of thanks. The minister hosted dinner to victorious
athletes.

Sept- On arrival at NyaungU Station on 10 September morning, Maj-Gen Myint Soe
of Ministry of Defence met with officers and other ranks and their families and
presented cash awards.

Sept - Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor U Phone Zaw Han
inspected road sanitation works in Aungmyaythazan Township and dredging of
drainage for proper flow of water in front of Thiri Mandalar Market on 7
September and attended to the needs.
He also viewed
thriving Ngwe Chi (6) cotton plantation and breeding of dairy cows in No (1)
Integrated Farm.
The mayor
addressed International Literacy Day Ceremony at No (14) Basic Education High
School the following day. He presented prizes to awarding-winning students in
commemorative poster and essay contests.
He viewed
posters, photos, newsletters and award-winning posters and essays displayed at
the hall of school in commemoration of the International Literacy Day.
Appointment
of Danish Ambassador agreed on

Sept-The Government of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of Mr
Mikael Hemniti Winther as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the
Kingdom of Denmark to the Union of Myanmar.
Mr Mikael
Hemniti Winther was born on 5 July 1960. He graduated from Copenhagen Business
School with Master of Science in Economics in 1987. He worked for the Ministry
of Agriculture from 1987 to 1993 during which he was assigned at UNIDO/UNDP in
the Philippines in 1989. Later, he joined the Ministry of Danish embassies in
Thailand and Vietnam until 2008.
While serving at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was also concurrently assigned as Associate
Lecturer at Copenhagen Business School in 1995 and as External Associate
Professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Copenhagen in 1998.
He is currently serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of
Denmark to the Republic of Iraq since September 2008.
He will be
concurrently accredited as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Union of
Myanmar with residence in Bangkok, Thailand. He is married.
Myanmar
delegation leaves for Thailand to attend meeting of ASEAN University Games

Sept – A delegation led by U Hsan, professor in charge of Dagon University
under the Higher Education Department (Lower Myanmar) left for Thailand by air
today to attend the 15th ASEAN University Games group leaders’ meeting to be
held in Chiang Mai in December 2010.
Selected sports
athletes from higher education departments and the Education Planning and
Training Department of the Ministry of Education will take parts football,
volleyball, Sepak Tatkraw, track and field, swimming, table tennis, tennis and
golf tournaments.
