Coordination meeting on observance of 56th Anniversary Union Day held

Yangon, 19 Jan - A coordination meeting on observance of the 56th Anniversary Union Day was held at Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha this evening, with an address by Chairman of Central Committee for Observance of the 56th Anniversary Union Day Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-1 delivered an address. He said the Union Day which brings about perpetuation of the Union and national solidarity is observed every year with full national essence.

He said the Union of Myanmar exists based on national solidarity. All national races are brethren who were born of the same family in the course of history countable by years in thousand. Hence, they have been constantly safeguarding the Union for its perpetuity.

All national people warded off external danger with unity when Myanmar was under the rule of the colonialists. They also struggled in unity for freedom from servitude of the colonialists, he said.

After regaining the independence, discord occurred among the national races due to the divide-and-rule policy of the colonialists and political power struggle. Armed insurgency also emerged, he said. Although the successive governments made efforts to end armed struggle and to restore peace in successive periods, they failed to achieve firm national solidarity, he added. He said the Tatmadaw government made efforts for building of national solidarity and ending the armed struggle. As a result, peace has restored and there is no existence of armed insurgency.

With national solidarity, the nation has become peaceful and pleasant. All the national races hands in hands with the government are making concerted efforts in harmony for national development and perpetuation of the Union, he said.

Continuing, he said, the government is systematically implementing regional development projects for further strengthening of the already-achieved solidarity, narrowing the development gap among the national people and the regions and equal development.

Moreover, the government is undertaking the border areas and national races development projects with greater momentum spending over K 30,000 million and US $ 500 million.

National races actively took part in the projects after realizing the genuine goodwill of the government and big towns have emerged in far-flung areas.

At that time, the government is implementing the other projects for equal development in all regions of the Union after designating 24 development special regions. Panglong region where the Union was conceived was designated as a development region in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe. Arrangements are under way for development of education, health, transport and communications sectors.

Panglong University, Panglong Technological College, Panglong Computer College were established for turning out highly-qualified human resources. In health sector, Loilem Hospital was upgraded to 200-bed special hospital and health care services are being provided to local people in Panglong region. Major roads are also being upgraded in Loilem region, he added.

The development projects have been carried out with the aims of narrowing the development gap among the national brethren, thereby contributing to further strengthening the spirit of national unity and Union Spirit.

At a time when the Government's endeavours for perpetuation of the Union is meeting with success and the spirit of national unity and Union Spirit are flourishing, holding of the 56th Anniversary Union Day is in conformity with the time and is full of national essence.

The Government has been making strenuous efforts for national development and for ensuring peace and stability of the Union. At a time when the national races have been enjoying the fruits of the national development and peace and stability of the State, the Union Day ceremony will have to be held with political essence.

With the aims of further flourishing the spirit of national unity and Union Spirit, the 56th Anniversary Union Day ceremony will be held with the following national objectives:

- for all the nationals to safeguard the national policy -  non-disintegration of the Union, non-disintegration of the national solidarity and perpetuation of sovereignty;

- to keep Union spirit always alive and flourishing among the entire national people:

- for all the nationals to strive in harmony for the emergence of an enduring State Constitution that will pave the way for the building of a new discipline-flourishing nation; and

-to ward off, with national solidarity, the danger of destructionists from inside and outside the nation who are disturbing the stability, peace, modernization and development of the State.

The Secretary-1 urged officials of the ministries concerned to make concerted and harmonious efforts to bring about equitable development the length and breadth of the Union and to flourish the spirit of national unity and Union Spirit among the national races in accord with the goodwill and the far-sighted guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe. Accordingly, the 56th Anniversary Union Day ceremony is to be held with the aim of realization of the lofty national objectives.

Then, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe reported on arrangements being made for holding the 56th Anniversary Union Day.

Next, Director-General of Pyithu Hluttaw Office U Myint Thein reported on work related to holding the 56th Anniversary Union Day, followed by a general round of discussions.

In response to reports, the Secretary-1 made a concluding speech. He said that in addition to Yangon, the 56th Anniversary Union Day ceremony will be held in States and Divisions with full national essence.

Nowadays, external and internal destructive elements are making a series of instigation and driving a wedge among national brethren with every intention of disintegration of the Union and national solidarity.

Realizing the instigation and fabrications made by internal and external destructive elements with the aim of undermining national solidarity and disintegration of the Union, the national brethren will have to wide off those evil acts.

As such, all the national brethren are to put in mind the essence of the Union and the value of national solidarity. He urged all officials concerned to make strenuous efforts to ensure the successful holding the 56th Anniversary Union Day ceremony for flourishing the spirit of national unity and Union Spirit.
